Three bishops held an “open and cordial discussion” with leaders of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious about the doctrinal assessment of the organization by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, according to a joint statement released by Archbishop J. Peter Sartain and the organization’s president.

In the doctrinal assessment, the Congregation granted Archbishop Sartain, assisted by Bishop Leonard Blair and Bishop Thomas Paprocki, the mandate to revise the statutes of LCWR, to “review LCWR plans and programs,” “to create new LCWR programs,” “to review and offer guidance in the application of liturgical norms and texts,” and “to review LCWR links with affiliated organizations, e.g. Network and Resource Center for Religious Life.”
