Argentine bishops apologize for failings during military rule : News Headlines – Catholic Culture

The bishops of Argentina have renewed an apology made in 2000 for the episcopate’s actions during the military dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla (1976-83).

“We share everyone’s pain and once again ask the forgiveness of everyone we failed or didn’t support as we should have,” the bishops said in a statement. The bishops, however, denied Videla’s recent claim that the Church was complicit in the human rights violations that took place under his regime.
